The
Recording Session

The day
after Dark Shadows cast members reunited to perform Return
to Collinwood at the 2003 Dark Shadows Festival, they met
at a recording studio in New York City to record the play. (A CD released

On September
1, 2003, David Selby, Nancy Barrett, Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott,
John Karlen, Marie Wallace, James Storm, Donna Wandrey, Roger Davis,
Chris Pennock, and Terry Crawford brought the Dark Shadows story
into the twenty-first century, and (with my trusty digital camera),
I was lucky enough to be there.
Like the
atmosphere of a TV or movie set, there was a lot of waiting. The actors
were summoned into the sound booth in groups, and the play was recorded
scene by scene (as opposed to a start-to-finish run-through), because
some actors needed to leave sooner than others. I spent most of the
afternoon in the waiting room, where the actors traded amusing stories
about their careers and chatted.
