Barnabas'
Ring
The
Barnabas Collins Ring is one of the rarest DS collectibles.
It's made of metal, with a fake onyx-like stone. It could only
be purchased by mail, by sending in five DS bubble gum
card wrappers and 50 cents. It was produced by Timco Industries
in 1969.
|
 It
looks a lot like the prop ring Jonathan Frid wore as Barnabas, but
it's actually a little nicer than the real thing. When I interviewed
Jonathan in 1991, he told me, "All these fans now have expensive
onyx rings, and the original on the show wasn't even onyx! It was
a green, cheap, Woolworth's thing and they painted it black. It was
a tacky old thing." |
|
The
ring was reproduced in 1998 and sold by MPI Media Group. It's being
sold in a commemorative box -- but the 1960s version didn't come
in any special container.
Special
thanks to Ed Galm for photos of this hard-to-find object.
